Mixamo to Blender:
Complete Character Rigging and Animation Workflow (2025 Guide)
Step 1:
Visit the official Mixamo website at https://www.mixamo.com/ and create a free account to get started.
Step 2:
Upload your T-pose character to Mixamo by dragging and dropping the file into the upload area.
Supported file formats: FBX, OBJ, ZIP (as indicated on the screen).
Step 3:
Drag and place the circles onto your character’s joints as shown. Then proceed by clicking “Next”.
Step 4:
Once your character is rigged, click the "Next" button.
You will then see this screen, where you can choose any animation for your character.
You can preview the selected animation in real-time before downloading.
Step 5:
After selecting your animation, click the "Download" button to save it to your computer.
For your first animation, select "With Skin" and choose the FBX format.
We recommend downloading in FBX format for best compatibility with Blender.
Step 6:
Import the downloaded .fbx file into your Blender scene.
Go to File > Import > FBX (.fbx) and select your file.
Step 7:
With your character selected in the scene, press N to open the right sidebar.
You can now access the "Mixamo Rig 2025" addon panel from the "Mixamo Tools" tab.
Step 8:
Select your character’s armature in the scene, then click the Create Control Rig button.
In the popup menu, uncheck "Apply Animation" if you only want to rig the character without importing animation.
If you want to rig the character with animation, leave all options checked.
Finally, click OK to proceed.
Step 9:
After the process is complete, switch to Pose Mode from the top left panel.
You can now pose and animate your character as you like using the control rig.
Step 10:
Finally, open the Timeline panel at the bottom to view all keyframes of your character’s animation.
While in Pose Mode, you can freely adjust your character’s movements at any frame.
If you want to record new poses or edits, make sure to click the Record (auto keying) button in the center of the timeline panel—otherwise, your changes won’t be saved as animation.
